Wax-based chain lube made from sunflower seeds? That’s the idea behind Flowerpower from @effetto_mariposa. Basically some sort of magic potion made from squished-up sunflower seeds (and surely some other stuff), but without using any “PTFE, sulphides, graphene or other chemicals harmful to the environment.” Actually smells kinda good, too.
I won’t pretend to be able to comment empirically about the lube’s ability to, uh, lubricate: how well it reduces friction, prevents wear, etc. Adam at @zerofrictioncycling already ran his exhaustive battery of tests and found it to be among the frontrunners in those respects. But I can say that this smaller bottle (100 mL) lasted me most of the summer across multiple bikes, it soaked in well despite my initial concerns it being a bit more viscous than Silca or CeramicSpeed stuff, there was almost no build-up, the drivetrain stayed nice and clean, and it seemed to last just as long (at least in dry conditions; doesn’t rain much here). Quite like the fact there are fewer synthetics in it, too.
Might have to just pony up for the 500 mL size next time.
